Through this article, Smith insistes that what we need for the future about the mass production is not only the automation but also the betterment. Can you imagine other elements? Also, do you think the way to develop in America and Japan are the same?

I don't think that the Japanese way of progress is the same as the American way. Because American way is really affected by religion and politics but Japanese way is molded by WW2 under the occupation of GHQ.
